Part of your analysis of use of dry ice on Shabbat is based on lack of availability for typical consumer. In Los Angeles, we have many local commercial outlets that sell dry ice by weight, most notably Smart & Final. Looking online for North Woodmere there is a commercial distributor Natuzzi Ice with” Dry Ice Pick Up 122-48 Farmers Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11434.” I know that many Walmarts and some Baskin Robbins stores also sell dry ice. My point is that is one can easily get dry ice if desired and it will keep from Friday till Shabbat. Just as an aside, dry ice is great for kosher travel. Keeps food cold 1-2 days and since it goes right from solid to a gas, it does not leave water everywhere. Commercial airlines will allow dry ice packing in checked baggage, too. Thanks for your great shiurim, Larry Adler
