Description

The new year often brings with it a list of new commitments to change. Inspired by the grandeur of Rosh Hashana, we aspire to correct our wrongs and cleave to our ideals more closely. In fact, the Rambam advises that as part of our process of Teshuva we call God as witness that we will never return to our evil ways again! And yet… It only takes a few days for reality to set in. Soon, the newfound idealism dissipates and we fall back into our old habits. Are we merely fooling ourselves with our New Year’s Resolutions? How else can we understand the role of commitment to a better future in our Teshuva?
