Description

The public reading of the Torah by the Kohen Gadol on Yomn haKippurim involves several anomalies - including "skipping" from section to section, reading a section by heart and the Kohen Gadol's averring that the Sefer Torah from which he read is not deficient. The Halakhic considerations that go into these details may point to the profound significance of a public recitation from a written text. We explore this significance in light of several passages from Tanakh. This shiur was given in the context of our "DIVE into the Daf" series.
