Description

Our sugya in B"K deals with the case of a thief who stole coins and must repay the owner. Can he return the very same coins he stole even if they are no longer of value? What is the status of currency that was invalidated as legal tender? What if the currency is legal in a far off country? Can a borrower pay back the lender with coins that are no longer legal tender? What about one who purchases merchandise but the seller allows the buyer to obligate to pay with certain coins down the line but in the interim the coins were taken out of circulation and have no value? Can one redeem his Maaser Sheni with coins that are legal in other countries? What is the Halacha re: coins that appreciated due to the gov't adding to its metallic weight?
