Description

https://vimeo.com/1219622517 Rav Hershel Schachter describes how his early love of Torah came from a home where his father was always learning, how his own teachers and especially Rav Soloveitchik shaped his learning and life, and how those influences continue to define his teaching, his hashkafa, and his sense of responsibility to transmit mesorah. He says the yeshiva is stronger now than in his youth, but he also sees weaknesses in kavod for talmidei chachamim, in overconfidence in personal psak, and in the lack of a single clear ruach. He emphasizes that Torah, halacha lema'aseh, broad knowledge, and fidelity to tradition are essential for rabbanim, talmidim, and communities, and he sees his own life as one link in the chain of Torah transmission.
