Description

The "Nine Days" begin on Rosh Chodesh Av, a day that is semi-festive in that it includes Hallel, a Torah reading and Musaf, with a prohibition of fasting and eulogizing. If so, why do we UPGRADE our mourning practices on this day, and not wait till the 2nd of Av?
