Rav Yitzchok of Vorka explains that the Jewish people’s unity came from ‘vayichan’, like ‘chein’, that they found favor in each other- even if another’s derech was different than theirs. Lastly, the Kotzker Rebbe explains that the Jewish people should fear- but not death/punishment, but rather the sins they might commit- the fear of not living up to our own potential.
