In the first class of the series we began discussing the halachos of hashavas aveidah, returning a lost item. We learned and discussed a Mishnah which explains that a person who is holding on to a lost object has a responsibility to protect the item but also any liability for ruining the item. We left off asking what the Mishnah means when it says that one is not obligated -in some circumstances- to care for a lost item. We hope to discuss this situation in detail next week.
