Description
The first in a series of short shiurim teaching techniques to read Tanakh that can be used time and time again
In our first classes we will attempt to track the technique to the parsha.
Parshat Vayera contains many great examples of techniques.
We begin with a comparison of the Akeida in ch.22 to a story in the Odyssey which Professor Erich Auerbach claims captures a crucial insight into how the Torah tells its stories
We then use a piece from Nechama Leibowitz about the significance of names of characters to understand the expulsion of Yishmael in ch.21
