Description

In the first part of today's shiur we will begin our study of a Teshuva of Rebby Akiva Eiger who determines that whereas the mitzva of שמחה does not require פת, the mitzva of כיבוד does require פת. The mitzva of Simcha can be fulfilled by eating meat and drinking wine, even without קביעת סעודה על הפת. Based on this definition, we can differentiate between men and women. While both men and women share the Mitzva of Simcha, women are exempt from כיבוד as a time bound mitzva. Therefore women are not obligated in אכילת פת. Hence if a woman were to omit יעלה ויבוא in Birkas HaMazon on Yom Tov, she would not repeat benching. On Purim if one were to omit על הניסים in Birkas HaMazon he would have to repeat benching because of the requirement of פת
