Masechet & Hilchot Shabbat 124a: Understanding the two Heterim of לצורך גופו ולצורך מקומו according to Rabba & Rava. We must keep in mind that Rava sees these two Heterim as one, i.e. לצורך שבת. Therefore the category of שלא לצורך, i.e. the second Heter, is מחמה לצל. But this is only relevant to a כלי שמלאכתו להיתר. A utensil designated for Issur cannot be moved to protect the כלי. Rabba sets up two separate Heterim, גופו ומקומו; hence there was never a Heter for חמה לצל. We will discuss the impact of this debate upon the status of כלי שמלאכתו לאיסור, with regard to לצורך מקומו, as well as the repercussions re: Rebby Nechemya.
