Description
The Torah prohibits Shochad, bribes, an ugly institution which has the capacity to undermine the justice system.
What is the extent of this prohibition, and in what exceptional cases might there be exceptions? Is the prohibition limited to Beit Din or does it extend beyond? What if the court lacks legitimacy or will offer illegitimate rulings? What about a scenario of a grave injustice or conspiracy (known as Avlah)?
This Chaburah - meant for theoretical study only -
considers both responsa and other halakhic materials in considering several positions on the question.
