For Masechet & Hilchot Shabbat 102b we will study the possibility of בנין בכלים in the case of the person who attaches the handle to the shovel. Our goal today is to present three views in the Rishonim. Rashi, there can never be בנין בכלים, there can only be מכה בפטיש. Tos', there is בנין בכלים but only with a מעשה אומן to attach the parts of a כלי in a tight and permanent attachment. The Rosh, there is only בנין בכלים if one creates a כלי in its entirety, not if one attaches two segments of a כלי. We hope to continue this sugya on Thursday.
