Description

When Avraham asks Hashem how he can be guaranteed that his children will inherit Eretz Yisrael, Hashem has Avraham enter into the Brit Bein HaBetarim - the Covenant Between the Parts. What is the meaning of this seemingly odd procedure of walking through four animals that are sliced in half? And how does that answer Avraham's concern? We present the critical concept in Sefer Bereishit of Maaseh Avot Siman L'Banim to answer these questions and give context to the events of the entire Parsha. We show how the actions taken by Avraham in this Parsha pave the way for Klal Yisrael to endure a history of exile and ultimately achieve a final state of redemption.
