At the end of Parshat Bereishit, God sees the evil of mankind in the world and decides to destroy the world with the flood. Then, after the flood, He promises to never again destroy the world. Why would God destroy the world? And if God determines that destroying the world is justified when evil becomes so overwhelming, how can He guarantee that He will never have to destroy the world again in the future? We make a fundamental parallel between human history and the life of every individual where there is an inevitable stage of youth during which evil prevails. We see that this stage must be wiped out completely in order to progress towards maturity.
