Description
The Makkot (plagues) present a significant challenge to understanding a group of chapters at the heart of Shemot. Why are there so many of them and why do they take up so much time? Could God not have broken Egypt and redeemed Israel in a single moment? More generally, what are we supposed to learn from them? Based on a piece by R David Silber we explain the makkot in light of the various ways in which Hazal grouped them (3X3, 5X2 etc) with a particular focus on a story concerning David in Divrei HaYamim.
