Description
Parshat Vaera opens with uplifting verses, where God situates Mosheh’s story within the broader history of God’s relationship with the Avot. With this encouragement, Mosheh will be better able to fulfill his task of convincing Pharoah and the Jews that slavery must end. And yet, at the height of the drama, the story is interrupted by an extremely long and involved lineage list! What is this list doing here? What does it add to the story? With the help of my teachers Rabbis Yair Kahn, Alex Israel and Dr Yonatan Grossman, we will show how the list gets to the heart of both the religious and political dimensions of Shemot, and illuminates in particular the role of Aharon. A lineage list has never been more exciting
