For Masechet Niddah 67b-68a & Yoreh De'ah siman # 199 we offer here an introduction to the sugya of סמוך לטבילה חפיפה. There seems to be a contradiction between two presentations of the Gemora as to what the Halacha requires in terms of the timing of חפיפה. We seek to present the controversy between Rashi & the Shelitos as to the final Halacha re this issue. Rashi pushes for an early חפיפה during the day; the Sheiltos advocates in favor of חפיפה at night right before the Tevilla. Rashi is opposed to a חפיפה by day if it will be a full day before the Tevilla. For example, if her Tevilla is on Sat night we cannot permit חפיפה on Erev Shabbos. Whereas acc to Sheiltos this is the case of אי אפשר and Erev Shabbos is fine.
