Forbidden foods, even if forbidden Rabbinically, can not be directed towards service of Hashem, and the desire for them is from the "Demon of the Gentiles". Even after permitted foods are used for the service of Hashem, the person needs to be purged of the material influence it had upon him through torment in the grave. For idle speech, he needs "Caf HaKelah". Prohibited speech requires a person to undergo hell, just like someone who involves himself in idle things instead of Torah Study. This is also true of one who studies secular disciplines. Her is actually worse than one who engages in idle matters, because he uses his intellectual capacity which is elevated for mundane purposes. One may study secular disciplines in order to serve God.
