Description

On the one hand, the Midrashim indicate that Reuven and Gad were destined to inherent the land on the opposite side of the Jordan. On the other hand, the Midrashim also strongly criticize these two tribes for doing so. What were they supposed to have done? Where did they go wrong? We examine the depth of the motivations involved in this decision as well as the unexpected connection between the last two sections of the Parsha and the topic of Nedarim which open the Parsha. (Part of HaMidrasha at QC, OU-JLIC's Torah learning program for women at Queens College)
