Description
Are parents to be listened to and obeyed in every circumstance, or does kibbud av v'em actually consist of a certain number of limited obligations which are tied to the parents physical well-being? In this shiur we trace how the latter position was advocated by a significant group of rishonim but then questioned by many acharonim.
We conclude with looking at the famous question posed to the Maharik in 15th C Italy as to whether a young man was obligated to listen to his parents, when they disapproved of the women he wished to be his wife.
