Derech HaLimud: שעורי תורה: הגדרת מעשה או חפץ על פי דין, או שיעור ע"מ להגיע לאיזו תכלית או מציאות We will study sugyot relevant to Shabbat, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot. In all cases we wish to raise the possibility that the Torah sets a שיעור in order to achieve a particular state, not as an absolute definition of an action or an object. What is the goal of enjoining a Kohen in the Mikdash from drinking a Revi'is of wine? Or of the Jew enjoined from eating a כותבת on Yom Kippur? or of an opening dug inside a house to establish מחיצות that set up a private domain? What is the goal of writing two letters or sewing two threads? Or of carrying 4 cubits in a public domain? In all cases we seek to define the nature of a שיעור and does חצי שיעור apply?
