Description

The sugya in Masechet Nidah 14a-b presents the great controversy re the case: she inspected herself but not the cloth. Tomorrow she discovers a stain on the cloth. Are we to assume that the stain came from her body or can we entertain the possibility that the stain came from another source? Rebby assumes that she is a 'certain' Nidah, i.e. the blood came from her body. Does Rebby exclude all other possibilities? If so, why does Rebby admit that the stain is larger than a גריס? Apparently we must exclude other sources. What about Rebby Chiya who rescinded his original position לחומרא? Was his original position that she is a 'certain' Nidah & in his old age he established her to be a Safek? Or did he change from Safek to a 'certain' טהורה?
