The sugya in Masechet Bava Kamma 39a addresses the question of three categories of people who are incapable of supervising their Mazik, i.e. the deaf-mute, the שוטה, and the child (minor). Does Beis Din appoint an agent to supervise and control the Mazik, and if so is the agent (Apotropus) responsible for damages?
