Description
The sugya in Masechet Kiddushin 66a-b addresses the controversy between Abaye & Rava regarding the status of the testimony of a single witness when the בעל דבר remained silent and did not contradict the witness. One case is when the witness testified that his wife was guilty of adultery & the husband failed to deny the testimony. Rava maintains that the husband's silence is hardly proof, and we cannot accept the testimony of a single witness in a דבר שבערוה; Abaye relates to the silence as a full-fledged acceptance of the testimony of the witness, which is sufficient to engender an Issur & compel the husband to divorce his wife. We will study the complex story of Yanai HaMelech & the suspicion that he was Pasul LeKehuna.
