The sugya in Masechet Kiddushin 61a presents the great debate between R' Meir & R' Chanina re: does the Torah require a תנאי כפול? The source for תנאי is the Parsha of בני גד ובני ראובן and the Torah formulates the תנאי that Moshe established with these Shevatim, a condition that must be fulfilled in order to guarantee their inheritance in Eretz Gilad on the eastern side of the Jordan River. We will study the defense for R' Chanina: why was it necessary for Moshe to double up the condition?
