Description

The first machine for baking matza was invented in France in the 1830s. By the late 1850s, it had made its way across Europe to Galicia, where a major controversy broke out. R. Yosef Shaul Natansohn permitted such matza, and he eventually carried the day (though it took some time). Among the authorities who prohibited was R. Shlomo Kluger, the legendary rav of Brody.
