Description

Our goal for the sugya of Shmuel in Masechet Chulin 112a is to gain an understanding Shmuel's principle of מליח הרי הוא כרותח, and determine the status of salted meat. How are we meant to understand the term רותח? Are we to identify this with heat which causes a serious 'bliah', i.e. a transfer of Taam? This would require a removal of נטילה and is a Torah requirement. Or do we identify 'rose'ach' with sharpness (חריפות) which engenders a minimal 'bli'ah' known as קליפה, not a genuine absorption of Ta'am? Based on these two definitions we will analyze a number of issues & debates regarding מליח.
