This is the first in a series of shiurim on the Halachos of Tefillas Nedava, a voluntary prayer added to the three Tefillos Kevuos that are obligatory on a daily basis. What is the nature of this Tefilla, i.e. is Tefillas Nedava, a new entity of Tefilla? Or is it identical to a tefillas chova just lacking a Chovas Gavra? Can a Nedava be integrated into a Tefilla that began as a chova or is this מין בשאינו מינו i.e. two separate identities that cannot be joined together? If Nedava is a new identity one must alter the very fabric of the tefilla which can only be achieved by Chudush bah Davar, adding to the standard prayer and creating something new. What is the status of maariv? Is it voluntary or has it become a Tefillas Chova?
