Description

We will analyze the two Halachos of the Rambam in Hil' Tefilla, 7:10-11, in which the Rambam seems to repeat himself. Based on the Rav's Yahtzeit shiur we will develop the Rambam's 2 dimensions of the mitzva of Birchat HaTorah. The beracha is both a 'matir' as a classical birchas HaMitzva, but also an independent mitzva unto itself. Whereas the former aspect is the subject of the sugya on 11b & only applies if & when one decides to study Torah, the 2nd dimension is the subject of the sugya here on 21a and is a once daily unconditional obligation to recite the beracha. ברכת אהבה רבה can replace the need for a 'matir' but cannot substitute for ברכת התורה as a חיוב. As a matir the Beracha is on the עסק התורה & once a day covers the entire day.
