We will study the controversy between Rashi and the יש מתירים regarding the principle of "Chanan' in the cases of salting or soaking. This will lead us to an analysis of two issues. One - what is the relationship between Basar Bechalav Derabanan, i.e. when there was no cooking, and Basar Bechalav DeOraisa? Two - According to Rebenu Tam, חנ"ן applies to all Issurim not only to Basar Bechalav. Why? Is this a Gezaira because of Basar Bechalav, or an Issur Derabanan unto itself independent of Basar Bechalav? We will study the Pri Megadim who interprets the leniency of the Rama regarding "Chanan" as applying exclusively to שאר איסורים, not applicable to Basar BeChalav.
