We continue our study of the mishna and gemorah at the beginning of the 3rd Perek of Masechet Berachot. We've already discussed the views of Rashi & Tos', and we are ready to analyze the view of the Rambam regarding the status of the אונן vis-a-vis Mitzvos. We will pay particular attention to the following question. The Rambam indicates that אנינות precludes the Onen from mitzvos even if the אונן would elect for mitzvos. Yet regarding Kriat Shema the Rambam would seem to allow the Onen to be מחמיר על עצמו and recite Shema. How are we to reconcile this apparant contradiction?
