Description

In this shiur for the Aggadeta for Masechet Berachot 10a, we will study the topic: Man, God, and the created universe. Whereas man's relationship to the physical world is superficial and external, God as Creator connects with the universe in a fundamental and internal way. Man creates, but his creations outlive him; man as all of material matter dies and disintegrates. Nothing can exist without God's continuous Will to engender existence. The sugya utilizes the metaphor of the artist & his work of art to God and the universe. In his insights into this sugya, HaRav Kook demonstrates that the Aristotelian concept of the eternity of the universe is antithetical to the most fundamental beliefs of the Torah.
