In this shiur delivered to Midreshet Rachel we offer an overview of the first two chapters of the Rambam's Shemona Perakim. We will rely heavily upon the translation of Rav Kapach. The focus is on the Nefesh, the soul or personality of man. What are the five parts that comprise the self, the being, the individual? Whis of these five are left to human control, i.e. to free will? Which parts belong to the responsibility of God, so to speak? What is the relationship between the senses and the emotions? What are the intellectual & the ethical virtues?
