p. 303 What are we supposed to do with our kochos (abilities) and desires? Every person has a special, dominant ko'ach to use in this world. We often only receive a temporary respite from our negative impulses. When we force our negative impulses back for a long period of time, they often come back with a vengeance and increased strength. Why the secular world does not have these problems. We have been taught in our yeshivos that, on the most basic level, any non-learning interests we might have (e.g., sports, literature) are evil. Using our energy in a productive manner. When every outlet for our energy is shut down by yet another "angry" Rabbi - so what are we supposed to do? Comparing the start athlete to the yeshivah bochur (boy). The prison that is the beis medrash (study hall). We need to show our kids that they are permitted to use their kochos outside of the beis medrash in a productive and exciting way.
