Description

One of the most common issues in Hil' Berachos is addressed by the Talmud Yerushalmi, Berachot, Perek 'Keitzad Mevarchim'. One took a food item into his hand, recited the beracha & then dropped the food before he ate it. Does he need a new beracha when he takes a "substitute" food? The Rishonim deal with a variety of scenarios, e.g. if the second food was not only the same species but it was also in front of him but not in his hand. Or what if he had in mind at the moment of the Beracha many other items of the same type. Is his 'da'as' enough to broaden the scope & the 'chaos' HaBeracha? What if he waited between the Beracha & the achila but did not interrupt with speech? What lapse of time constitutes a 'hefsek'? We'll study the Beit Yosef
