Description

During the time of nidah, the wife can do all of her domestic obligations except for certain specific actions that indicate a certain level of chibah (affection) and kirvah (closeness). Two of these actions are pouring a drink in front of her husband and making his bed in his presence. Actions that are tzchok (playfulness) and kalus rosh (lightheadedness) are also prohibited. The husband can compliment his wife and give her ordinary gifts. The great Israeli poskim are machmir (strict) to not let the husband and wife walk under the same umbrella, while the American poskim are meikel (lenient). There is a machlokes whether a husband and wife can carry an object, like a heavy package or baby stroller, together. Today, we are machmir to not allow a husband and wife to pass things to each other, even in a mitzvah situation.
