Description
Please refer to the first shiur in this series for the source text. Forgiving debt takes place even outside of the land of Israel. Calling out to the whole world: " This is Hashem's shmita!" Is shmitas k'safim (forgiving debt) a chovas haguf (obligation upon the person) or a chovah ha'teluyah ba'aretz (an obligation dependent on the land)? When shmitah (resting) of the land is a Rabbinic obligation, then so is forgiving debt. The source for the pruzbul document (permission to collect debts) is in Tractate Gittin. How to execute a pruzbul. How is it possible that Hillel was able to cancel shmitas k'safim?
