Description
The month of Kislev is ruled by the letter 'samech' and the activity of sheina (sleep). The parshios (Torah portions) of Kislev are filled with dreams - of Yaakov, Yosef, and Pharaoh. During the night of galus (exile) with its difficulties, we can easily be pulled into false dreams and the emptiness of Yavan (Greece). The true dream of Chanukah is that we, in our weakness, can overcome the boundaries, the Greek logic, the ugliness of our lives. Chanukah is about that nekuda (point) inside of us that has not been defiled. A big dream is filled with brilliance and expansiveness and soars above regular daily life. The image of the face of Yaakov that Yosef saw in the midst of his difficulties was the Chanukah candle. Hashem is waiting for us to come back.
