At Chanukah, we can do teshuvah and be forgiven for all of our aveiros (transgressions). Yaakov refused to be comforted after hearing that Yoseph had been killed. There are three names and three types of exiles corresponding to the names that our forefathers gave to the Har Habayis (Temple Mount). Even in the darkness of losing Yoseph, Yaakov still served Hashem. Potifar's wife attempted to seduce Yoseph even when he was in prison. In the older generation, Jews had inner peace. Chanukah is the period when Hashem tells us a joke in the darkness.
