Description

Shemen (oil) represents middos (character traits) and deos (ideas). The Yavanim (Greeks) defiled the Jewish people's feelings and thoughts in the days of Chanukah. Every Jew has the quality of the Kohen which is an inner longing to live a better life in the light of Hashem's Torah. The inner Kohen Gadol (High Priest) is the unbreakable love a Jew has for Hashem. When the inner Kohen Gadol becomes buried deep inside of us and almost completely inaccessible, Hashem wakes up our emunah (faith) Himself.
