We all have acquaintances. We all need a friend who we can share the deepest part of ourselves with. In the absence of friendship we cannot go on. To be alone is terrible. The truth of the Torah is that Hashem created us with a feeling of loneliness that makes us crazy. If we feel that Hashem is our truest friend then we are not lonely. All of our Avodas Hashem (serving G-d) is missing the basic element of friendship with Hashem. We can live our life as a life of love- with Hashem. Some survivors of the war believed so much in Hashem but felt that their trust was broken and the letdown was unbearable.
