Kids leading double lives right under the nose of their parents. It is is a big mitzvah to fear Hashem, fulfilling His will which makes us closer to Hashem! We might fear Hell and become distanced from the Creator, or we might fear Hashem Who is punishing us, and then Hashem is perceived as frightening. Every aspect of Avodas (serving) Hashem binds us to our Creator. Connecting to Hashem from any situation including the fear of Hashem.
