Description

Gehinom (hell) is a spiritual entity which relates to the neshama (soul). The only way to attain yirah (fear) is through the neshama, not through the body. Attaining only a portion of the yirah by considering the suffering of this world since the full extent of the punishment for our sins is not revealed. Attaining fear of punishment through tefillah and imagery. Rebbe Elimelech remembered when he "hit" his mother as a baby. We are a generation that runs away from feeling any discomfort.
