p 191. Tov (good) is something that is beyond the physical. As the physical gets weaker, the spiritual becomes stronger. Great neshamos (souls) come out of situations of lack. The body and the neshama, as well as a man and woman, are opposites being held together by Hashem. The older generations were able to handle poverty better than we can. Torah doesn't have kiyum (staying power) without mesirus nefesh (self-sacrifice). Only a people who are prepared specially can receive the Torah. Tikkun hamiddos (fixing character traits) and kedusha (holiness) are the preparations to receiving the Torah. Water is the perfect receiver.
