Description

p 140. The philosophers incorrectly stated that the intellect is the essence of man. The Ramban said that the only real learning is learning about Elokus (G-dliness). The Chassidic Rebbes revived the learning of the Maharal's writings. The ultimate purpose of life is dveykus (attachment) with Hashem and the mitzvos are the means to reach it. Avodas Hashem (Divine Service) begins when we realize that we need Hashem, that we have no existence outside of Hashem. Being dependent on Hashem draws us closer to him. A cheit (sin) cuts us off from dveykus.
