Description

p 105. The laws of shechting (ritual slaughter) a cow and its calf on the same day are different when the cow is pregnant. The Rambam and Ramban imply that the mitzvos (commandments) are only for the moral development of man. The ultimate purpose of all mitzvos is to bind ourselves to Hashem. Mitzvos are called decrees. Rachamim (compassion) is a result of keeping the mitzvos, not the essential reason for doing them. Each mitzvah is an eitza tova (a good advice) about how to connect to and resemble Hashem. Some people believe in a 'G-d' that will follow them and their desires rather than the other way around.
