Any Mashpia influences people in one of two ways. He or she either closes themselves off with God and people come to them. This was the way of Yitzchak and Yosef. The second is that of going out to people and bringing them closer to God and inner living. This was the way of Avraham and Yehuda. This is the balance that Yaakov struggled with, and therefore we all struggle with this to this day. Regardless, one must build a strong foundation before going out to the masses, in order to effective and remain unaffected.
