Description

P. 95 in Raza D'Shabbos, Eliyah Weintraub, zt'l's piece on Davening on Shabbos. The nishmas chaim (breath of life) that Hashem blew into Adam became manifested as the ruach l'malela (the power of speech). The essence of speech is to speak to Hashem in tefillah, specifically the Amidah, and especially on Shabbos. The Gra says that there is no greater bitul Torah than the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash, and at the destruction, avodah and Torah were separated. The Torah goes through whatever Am Yisrael goes through. Since the destruction, davening is the closest we can come to getting a taste of the Beis HaMikdash. The entire Shabbos is tefillah. A person who has not learned before davening on Shabbos morning has no idea what he is missing.
