Razah D'Shabbos - P34 - Essay: Ha'aliyos LeShabbos - Rising Up Towards Shabbos
Why is it that on Shabbos, the special gift for Bnei Yisrael (the Jewish nation), there is no mention of "atah bechartanu" (you chose us) like we find in the Yom Tov davening? The six days of Yom Tov fix the six weekdays; we do this - in part - with food preparation; but what exactly is it that differentiates between teh weekdays and the Yamim Tovim, and between the Yamim Tovim and Shabbos? Clarifying and separating between right and wrong, chol (profane) and kodesh (holy), Jews and the nations of this world. On Shabbos, there is no bechirah (choice), and there is no need to sort or separate or for "atah bechartanu," because of our very special and inherent relationship with Hashem. The relatively new text of "b'chiras libo" (the choice of his heart) in wedding invitations. Shabbos reveals that we are Hashem's "bas giloh" (designated one). Shabbos is a taste of what will be at the end of time and completely beyond "atah bechartanu." [and hence we call Shabbos: m'eyin olam habah - a taste of the world to come]
